Fancy Food Show + National Popcorn Day (Week, Year!)
Hello again! It’s just past mid-January and things are already moving and shaking...and popping!
Product, Process, and Packaging News:
The Winter Fancy Food Show -- a production of the Specialty Food Association -- occurred in San Francisco on 13-15 January 2019. One of our longtime distributors, The Revere Group, which specializes in food-safe and flexible packaging, exhibited at the show. They’re one of our go-to vendors for product packaging used in the weigh+fill process.
In amongst the fancy foods on display was gourmet popcorn. We love popcorn and our popcorn customers and they seem to love their Logical Machines.
Logical Q&A: In celebration of National Popcorn Day on 19 January 2019 (Which begs the question: Why not celebrate popcorn all week, all month, and all year!):
Q: “I’m hand-scooping popped corn into bags. How many bags of popped corn can I fill with a Logical Machine?”
A: If, for instance, you’re filling two 6 oz. bags per minute, by hand-scooping and hand-weighing, of popped corn per minute, it’s possible to increase the speed & accuracy of your bagging by upwards of 4x...which leads to a necessary increase in your production and sales...with a Model S-4 - The Perfect Popcorn Filling Machine.

Factoids: Popcorn
- Popcorn dates back thousands of years and was used in early Aztec Indian ceremonies
- Americans consume 13 billion (with a ‘b’) quarts of popped popcorn annually or 42 quarts per man, woman, and child.
- 92% of Americans enjoy popcorn -- Humans have been eating popcorn for over 5000 years (and some historians believe longer)! While it was always a popular snack, popcorn “popped” to consumption levels during World War II when sugar rations made candy and other snack food very hard to come by.
- Every year Americans eat about 17 billion quarts of popcorn, while 58 quarts are consumed by the average American. About 70% is consumed in home and 30% is consumed outside the home (theaters, stadiums, schools). Popcorn is low in calories compared to most snack foods Americans consume each day. Air-popped popcorn only has 31 calories per cup, oil-popped is only 55 calories per cup, and buttered popcorn has 90-120 calories per cup.
